A Game-Changer for North Shields
11th January 2023
A ferry link to Scandinavia could return to the Tyne in 2026. The company Bergen Cruise Line are currently raising capital to re-establish the route with an environmentally-friendly ship powered by electric motors and a 13,500 kWh battery that charges while the ship is in port. This will allow the vessel to enter fjords quietly and with minimal distrubance to marine life.
This initiative will surely come as a welcome development for the Port of Tyne, in tune with plans for the river to become an epicentre of the green economy in the region. Let’s hope the vision becomes a reality.

Would be great news for shields!
